Bluegrass Meets Classical
One of the most highly acclaimed groups in the music world today, the Kruger Brothers personify the spirit of exploration and innovation that forms the core of the American musical tradition. Their discipline, creativity and ability to infuse classical elements into folk music has resulted in a sound that has made them a fixture in the acoustic world – unpretentious, cultivated, and delightfully fresh. Hosted by the Pamlico Musical Society, the group will perform at Silos’ Red Rooster in Oriental on Friday, 26 October at 7:30 p.m., rain or shine. The gates open at 6 pm. Bring your own chair, but NO food, alcoholic beverages or coolers. Food and beverages will be sold on the premises.
Originally from Switzerland, brothers Uwe and Jens Kruger began playing North Amer-
ican folk music at an early age and were particularly inspired by recordings of Doc
Watson, Flatt and Scruggs, Bill Monroe, and other progenitors of country, bluegrass
and folk music. Their first public performances were as a duo, busking on the streets
of cities throughout eastern and Western Europe. They later teamed up with bass player Joel Landsberg, inaugurating a trio that has been playing professionally together since 1995. Now based in North Carolina, the Kruger Brothers have more recently ventured further into the themes and forms of classical music. The result is a catalog of songs and music distinguished by its rich detail and an insight into the delicacy and complexity of everyday life.
“They defy description, categorization and convention. In a world of bands that are sounding more and more frighteningly alike, they stand alone, fearlessly exploring new musical waters with a level of excitement, energy and creativity, the likes of which the genre hasn’t seen before….” Dave Higgs – Bluegrass Breakdown Playlist
“These guys are capable of playing the fingers off a roomful of great players, yet they hold back and concentrate on bringing out the best in their own music.” – Barb Heller, host of String Fever, North Country Public Radio
Tickets to this concert are $22 and are available in Oriental at Nautical Wheelers, 411 Broad Street; the Silos Restaurant, 1111 Broad Street Ext; the O Town Restaurant, 518 Water Street, and online at www.pamlicomusic.org For more information, call 252-617-2125.
For helping to make this concert possible, Pamlico Musical Society wishes to thank our corporate sponsors First Citizens Bank of Oriental, Gibbs Hall Hearing Aid Center of New Bern, Oriental Village Veterinary Hospital, and private citizens Janci and Doug Cahoon of Arapahoe.

Pamlico Musical Society “Swings” into New Season with DUCHESS
Sure-footed swing, sweet-toned harmony and ever-insouciant charm are embodied in the new jazz vocal trio Duchess, featuring notable New York singers Amy Cervini, Hilary Gardner and Melissa Stylianou. Blending the classic and the contemporary, DUCHESS has quickly earned a reputation for beautiful singing and big fun at the group’s shows of “girl-on-girl harmony,” as the three so saucily put it. On Friday, 28 September at 7:30 PM, DUCHESS will perform at the Old Theater in Oriental, presented by the Pamlico Musical Society.
The New York-based threesome made its debut on record with the album “Duchess” in February 2015, which channels the 1930s inspiration of the virtuosic Boswell Sisters into a wonderfully entertaining package. Whether on stage or on record, the women of Duchess make for a fizzing cocktail of vocal jazz. Supported by keyboard, upright bass, and drums -- all fabulous musicians in their own right -- the group creates a high-energy musical experience that will be the talk of the town.
“This threesome devises original arrangements of mostly vintage songs, both familiar and offbeat. They understand that swinging music goes hand in hand with an audacious sense of humor.” -- Wall Street Journal
Tickets to this concert are $22 and are available in Oriental at Nautical Wheelers, 411 Broad Street, and online at www.pamlicomusic.org. Tickets for sold-out shows may become available at the door last minute. Check at the box office at 7:15. For more information, call 252-617-2125.
For helping to make this concert possible, Pamlico Musical Society wishes to thank our corporate sponsors Inner Banks Sails & Canvas, Inc. and Marsha’s Cottage, and Mari and Mike Zimet, all of Oriental.
Celebrating over twenty years of great music for our community, Pamlico Musical Society is a non-profit organization bringing quality musical entertainment, enrichment, and education to Pamlico County, and we welcome your support!
